Transversal-- a line that intersects 2 or more lines at different points

Angles that are formed by the transversal line:
Corresponding Angles-- angles that have corresponding positions
Alternate Interior Angles-- angles that lie between the 2 lines and on opposite sides of the transversal
Alternate Exterior Angles-- angles that lie outside the 2 lines and on opposite sides of the transversal
Consecutive Interior Angles-- angles that lie between the 2 lines and on the same side of the transversal. Sometimes called "Same Side Interior Angles"

1) Which line is the transversal line?

Lines AB and CD are cut by the transversal line FE

2) What angle pair relationship does 2 and 6 have?

2 and 6 have a corresponding angle relationship.

3) What angle pair relationship does 3 and 5 have?

3 and 5 have a consecutive interior angle relationship.

Example of angles formed by transversals:
Lines AB and CD are cut by transversal XY, and because of transversal XY, angles 1-8 are formed.

Types of Angles formed by transversals:
Consecutive Interior Angles-- angles that lie between the 2 lines and on the same side of the transversal.
Alternate Interior Angles-- angles that lie between the 2 lines and on opposite sides of the transversal
Corresponding Angles-- angles that have corresponding positions
Alternate Exterior Angles-- angles that lie outside the 2 lines and on opposite sides of the transversal.

Examples of angles formed by transversals within the picture above:
Consecutive Interior Angles: <4 and <8
Alternate Interior Angles: <2 and <8
Corresponding Angles: <5 and <1
Alternate Exterior Angles: <1 and <7
